New search (now completed): Dealer Spike Chief Product Officer

Dealer Spike offers an award-winning suite of software tools and marketing services to help dealers, equipment manufacturers and distributors in selected vertical markets be more successful online and in-store. The company provides several online solutions that help convert online searches to visitors and visitors to leads or sales.  They provide in-store solutions to adjudicate leads and other solutions to increase sales, improve gross margin per ticket, or improve productivity. Dealer Spike’s innovative products are powered by a proprietary data repository of enriched original equipment and aftermarket electronic content spanning more than 50 years. Business is complicated, but they believe customers' technology tools don't have to be. They remove the complexity of selling and servicing new and used vehicle inventory, parts, garments and accessories (PG&A) for customers in several vertical markets including the powersports, outdoor power equipment, marine, recreational vehicles, agriculture equipment and heavy truck industries. More than 23,000 dealers, 195 distributors, and 200 OEM brands worldwide leverage their website, digital marketing, point of sale, and eCatalog solutions to improve revenues and profits. This position is based in Portland Oregon, but the company has multiple offices in the US and two international offices in the Netherlands and India. The company has about 900 employees worldwide and customer installs in over 100 countries.

The company has grown revenues dramatically over the past five years by executing on a four-point growth plan. That plan has included both organic and acquired growth as Dealer Spike participated in fragmented markets with many acquisition targets. They have completed 10 acquisitions in the past 10 years. They are a portfolio company of True Wind Capital, a San Francisco based Private Equity Firm managing approximately $1B in assets. It is the intent to grow the business both organically and through acquisitions moving forward; Dealer Spike expects to execute on larger acquisitions more frequently moving forward, in order to accelerate their growth rate. The right candidate will participate in that growth through options in the new company, which they believe represents significant upside potential over the next few years. Dealer Spike’s strong leadership team executes on the company's vision, successfully positioning the company for rapid growth in an exciting, competitive space. Under this leadership, the company has grown CAGR at 17% over the last 5 years and expects to produce in excess of $90 million in revenues and generate strong EBITDA and cash flow in 2018.

Position: Chief Product Officer

This Chief Product Officer will lead a geographically-dispersed team of 20 product managers that drives the vision, development and communication of compelling product roadmaps that increase sales, decrease churn and improve the development velocity and time to market of successful SaaS tools. He/She will determine the optimum structure, tools and implement best processes and practices in the product team to ensure that the highest value SaaS tools are developed, increasing user engagement and value to customer across their multiple dealer networks and product offerings.

The CPO will lead the team that synthesizes multiple internal and external data points, driving a unified vision resulting in rationalized product suites and product/technical requirement documents that win in the market. This product team will be the tip of the spear, soliciting data from everyone on the team with customer engagement to develop deep customer insights, prioritize capabilities and use cases that will be of highest value and best position Dealer Spike in the channels they serve. This executive will work closely with the CEO, CTO and executive management team in the continued development and execution of the roadmap, balancing investment with the market and selecting opportunities that drive broader/deeper adoption across target markets and enabling increase in ACV. The CPO will partner closely with the CTO/software development teams to insure the most impactful features and functionality are developed on time with quality.         

He/She will build on, lead and fully develop a current team, implementing best practices across product management that are more proactive, strategic and forward-thinking. This executive will grow the capabilities of the product management team to be sought after business partners to all of the other functional groups and build the next generation of product management leadership. This CPO will be a face and voice of the company, representing Dealer Spike on a global basis with customers, prospects, partners, and other key stakeholders. He/She will be on the executive staff reporting directly to the CEO and will have significant Board of Directors visibility.

The qualified candidate will have the following:     

  • Verifiable success as a Chief Product Officer or VP/Senior Director of Product in a B2B or B2B2C SaaS company. Ideally serving a dealer channel or SMB market.

  • Track record of product/strategic leadership, evidenced by developing products that increased revenue, development velocity and stickiness while reducing churn.

  • Team development/leadership – having been at least a second level manager, leading and developing teams that became more proactive and recognized as great business partners across all functions.

  • Success leading product management in SaaS with significant mobile content and strong UI/UX experience targeting non-technology natives with simple, easy to use applications.

  • Excellent collaboration skills evidenced by building great relationships across all internal functions and external partners.

  • Highly analytical and process driven with the ability to set goals and manage with data.

  • M&A, product rationalization/consolidation + the integration of acquisitions experience preferred; working in a PE environment, international experience, and working in automotive/powersports/marine/RV industries would also be helpful.
